Can somebody tell me - on a 009 distributor advance mechanism - Is there a return spring on both the throw-out weights (down inside the distributor). There are mountings for two springs - one post and one nib thing for each throw-out weight, but my distributor only has one spring. Anybody know?

just one spring. i pulled my 009 out and took it apart to install electronic ign module and pulled out the plate to clean and lube the weights, i used anti sieze for lube, worked great. then i went with an svda, works better.

It depends on which 009 you have. If it only has centrifugal advance, 1 is correct. There are several other 009s.

The only other Bosch distributors that end with the numbers OO9 are a VW vacuum only and a Alfa cast iron mechanical... not to be used on a VW.

Thanks for the info and the piccie. My 009 does not seem to be advancing enough. Has anybody ever bent the stop post that limits the amount of advance down on the advance weight? This seems like it would be sacreligous in light of the fact that this stop point is factory - set.

GOOD PICTURE!!!

Many of the newer OO9 clones have problems with not advancing correctly.

Randomly making changes can give unpredictable and undesirable results. To really know what impact your changes has made you need a distributor tester like this.

Honestly you'd be better off getting another distributor that works correctly and is best suited from the carb and engine combo you have.
