| Can someone tell me a good setup for a daily driver with a 1600 dp? I have a 65 Beetle with an engine out of a 73. Will I get better gas mileage running dual carbs, and what is the difference between Kadron and Weber? Other than the manufacturer. My car has a Solex single on it now. I'm not looking to race, just keep up with the traffic. Thanks |

| I think the best carbs would be 34 ICT Webers, just the right size for a 1600 |

| The ICT's (34) are small one barrel carburetors and the IDf's are larger dual barrel. The 1600 will be flooded out by the amount of feul that the IDF's (40 & 44) flow |

| Thanks! I think the accelerator pump on my Solex is bad and I was thinking of upgrading to a dual carb setup. Is there a noticeable increase in horsepower when you switch to dual carbs, even if they are single barrel? |

| I had them on a 1600 and they added a little power and good torque, plus they have that great dual carb sound 8) |

Huh????? Are you speaking from experience or??? I run 40 DRLA's on my 1641. You can run 40's all day long when jetted correctly. I've heard of 48IDA's on 1600-1700cc engines. It's all in how you tune it.
If I was looking for a set of carbs for a stocker 1600, I'd look hard at a set of 36mm DRLA's. They're a good quality carb, that you can grow with. Once set up correctly, you really don't need to mess with them. Buy once cry once. |

Boys! Boys! Settle down now
So what I'm hearing is that the Weber 34 ICT's would be good if I never planned to upgrade to a bigger engine. But if I wanted something I could put on a 1641 or larger engine in the future the 36 DRLA's would be something to look into? That is a consideration, these are a sizeable investment as far as upgrades go and if my engine ever needs a rebuild I would probably go bigger. I've looked in the classifieds and both carbs seem to be going for around the same price. |

Dells and Webers are not that different. Either one can be set up accordingly. My 1641 is fairly stock. |

Yes, my point is think ahead for the day you want to upgrade the engine size. It's not fun when you have to replace more than what you want. ICT's would work just fine, but DRLA's would work well also. I gained 13+hp at the wheels alone, going from my stock single carb to my Dells. That's 30%!!!! I wouldn't have got that w/ ICT's. Read my dyno post in my sig line. |

| Wouldn't a set of solex 28's work good for a duel set up on a stock 1600? I had a '69 squareback with this setup and it ran really well. I see them in the classifieds for $150 to $200 including dp manifolds. These are easy to adjust and quite stable. |

| Sure they would work, but there are better choices. |

| I guess I have to be the guy to vote for Kadrons. They are 40mm, run great with stock dp heads and can be jetted and run great on bigger heads as well. Check out the lowbugget web site. I love my kadrons, but you do need to spring for the good linkage like the one aj sells off the site. |

| Kadrons are over rated. Once you run Dells, you'll never go back to Kads.....guaranteed. AJ did a good job of hyping them up. |
