howdy all!

picked up this style tach (same tach, not a picture of mine) and needed some assistance wiring it up.

the back has 6 male spades. 2 on the little illuminating bulb, and then the others are labeled 12, 6, 1, and "-"

I assume minus is ground, but the others I wasn't sure. I thought maybe 12 and 6 referred to whether or not you were using 12 or 6 volts, but I wanted to know for sure. 1, I was assuming, is for the signal from the coil? that was my other question, do these older tachs use an actual sender or is it the usual wire connected to the neg. side of the coil?

the light bulb has two male spades. anyone know why it needs two? I can only see a reason for one.

This is a VDO cockpit series tacho. You are correct, the "-" is connected to ground, a positive lead from the fuse box to the 6 or 12 Volt connection, and "1" directly to the coil ( same wire terminal as goes to the condensor) without a sender. Also check as these can be multi-cyclinder tacho's and can be switched for 2,4, 6, 8 cyl.
A picture would help for the light, but some use a positive and negative wire ( without the usual grounding by the case ). Hope this helps, Cheers, Pat.
