Its a great spot. Some of the hot springs at the resort you have to pay to get into, but us locals know where the free ones are. Just ask around and you will be fine. I have never camped there because there are nicer places to be had not far from there.
As far as camping, this is prime teritory. One of my favorite spots is back at Florence Lake along the Hooper Diversion road. Just follow the signs to Florence and before you get to the campground called Jackass Meadow, hang a left (there will be a sign). Follow it across the stream (dont be afraid, my 2wd makes it just fine) and look for the big cliff face on the left. The stream is right below the face. Stunning view. Easy to get back up to the lake as well.
All along the road to Mono/Edison/Florence there are nice little pull out spots that will give you great views of the Kaiser Wilderness. Just bring water and camp where you like.
Huntington Lake has some nice developed campgrounds, too. Billy Creek is the least crowded of the bunch....I will be there Labor day weekend.
Edison lake is nice too, but the water is way down.
Good fishing in all the lakes in this area and the San Joaquin river bisects the road as well. Good hiking up and down from this point.
I know of a few good 5 mile hikes in the area as well.
