I have and 85 vanagon - westfalia.
She has suddenly developed a high idle issue when I put her in park.
It sounds fine on the intial warm up in the morning. but after that she kicks to 2000 plus revs. And give s an ugly kick when putting her back in Drive.
Any advice on the situation,
Thanks |

Check your TPS - Throttle Positioning Switch. I had a similar issue and my TPS was out of adjustment. You can find info all over the Samba. It's also possible that the throttle is sticking. You may have to remove the throttle body and give it a good cleaning. I'v done it and it's not that hard.
Start there and let us know what happens. |

Disconnect, carefully clean the connections, and reconnect the Temp2 (coolant temp) sensor, which is the blue one on the thermostat housing to the left of the water pump. If you have AC, it is hiding beneath the compressor.
And by all means, adjust that throttle switch. |

| You can try turning the idle down also. Worked for me...... |

i just replaced my TPS (throttle valve sensor in Bentley) in my 85
adjusted idle afterwards and everything a-ok
have you got a bentley to test it>? I probably only had to replace the Cam, but did the whole thing.
also, keep in mind to replce the throttle body gasket if you do have to remove the throttle body |
