I thought I was getting a deal when the guy at advanced auto parts said he could get me a master cylinder for my 1969 FB. When it arrived it was obviously different (late model i believe) question is can i piggyback the "wires in question"??? (going from 3 switches to 2) and do any of you see a problem with the way I have it set up?? Thanks for your input..... also the pic is from the underside looking back if anyone didnt get that part of it.... thanks again
(also I am not hung up on being year specific on this car I just want it to stop and light up the lights)

Not to hijack the thread, but is there a different between the MC's that local auto parts store sell and the ones that are sold on here for twice the price?
To the OP, If I remember correctly, I just didn't hook up the extra wires to anything. I taped up the ends, and hung them out of the way. Of course, this was like 15 years ago, so I may be wrong. |

If you've got the 2 switches wired in, and the brake lights work, then I wouldn't worry too much about those wires, as they just run the warning light (usually comes on after there's a problem). Just tape them up good insulate them from themselves first), and tie them out of the way.
If they really bother you, then you'll need 2 new 3 prong switches, and then figure out which wire will get piggybacked to one of the terminals (of each switch), and the other wire goes to the extra terminal on the switch ( these 2 wires are the solid red and solid black that feed the warning light). Both of these go to the extra terminal on the 3 prong switches, but there's also a red with black stripe wire that goes to the switches too (goes to the cars brake lights), and a solid black wire that brings power to the switches from the fuse box. Ok, now that I've read what I typed (I kinda had to walk thru it myself), the black wire from the extra loom will get piggy backed on the switches, and the red wire will go to the extra terminal of the 3 prong switch. But like I said above, you'll need two 3 prong switches (about 12 bucks each) to attach the extra wires you have. I hope this helps. |

I haven't found any difference, other than if I have a problem with one, I can get it replaced locally since it'll be under warranty. If you're not in a hurry, you could remove it (your old one), and send it to Jim Adney for rebuilding. I think he prefers to rebuild the ATE, and the OE VW ones though, so if you've a non-stock one, he might give you a hard time because of the kit needed for it. |
