Hello all back again for all your expertise. So here is my problem....Drove van fine went up to 10000 feet i will say that i live at 8000 feet so not sure it this is a factor or not anyway she drove fine i stopped to camp woke up in the morning and couldnt get her to start. Cranks all day just wont turn o ver. So i first checked that i had spark i do. then i checked fuel pressure and its fine. So i feel that i am left with no fuel to the injectors and i dont know why. She is at the mech. in Leadville and he is stumped as well.
Thanks for anything

I've been dealing with the exact same issue with my 84 gl 7passenger. It would start no problem when warm, but after it sat for a day or two, I would have a hard time starting. The starter turned the engine easy enough, but it would not start and smelled like it was flooded. It was getting fuel and spark, checked both. Here is what seemed to mostly cure my problem(again, I'm new to these boxer engines so I'm no expert but have been able to get mine started after the following checks:
1. Check the afm adjustment screw first. Mine was all the way seated(clockwise). I backed it out about 2 full turns and it started right up.
2. pull the engine breather hose from the intake boot, then try to start. Any difference? It worked on another occasion for me.
3. check the switches that click when the throttle cable is pulled( I think these are called the tps switch) to see if the wires are solid and do not get stuck in the way of the throttle cable. They are on top of the throttle body.
I still have to slightly press the gas pedal to start after it's been sitting for a day or more to get it to catch. It seems to only give one chance to catch on the first try, but it starts this way. If it doesn't start on the first try then it floods and I have to wait to try again.
I'm new to wasserboxer engines, and don't have the bently yet, but I've owned several 80's watercooled vws and they all are very sensitive to vacuum leaks so would be good to make sure everthing is not leaking air from the vacuum hoses as well.
Hope this is helpfull, by the way I'm not too far from leadville, just outside of Vail if your up this way and need any help. |
