| I have a 68 Ghia and the charging system seems not to be working. I replaced the light with a volt gauge. I have heard that u need the light for the system to charge properly is this true. |

You don't need the light for the system to charge properly but the light can be an indication of a system that is not charging properly - if that makes sense.
The light also can indicate a broken belt since the system would not be charging if the belt is broken. A broken belt means the engine is not cooling so the light does serve a dual purpose.
The gauge is Ok but you might not always be looking at it to see a non-charge/broken belt situation wheras the light is more noticable. Its easy to get the light working properly - just trace the circuit in a wiring diagram. |

| I have both the light and gauge in mine. I like the gauge better but I do enjoy the comfort of a backup system. I also have the same setup for oil pressure...light and pressure gauge. |

| The light is part of the system. It will never signal to charge without it. Same with an alternator. |
