I just bought a 59 vert and I don't know what to do. I bought it to make money. The problem is to part it out or complete restore? It has lots of OG parts all #'s match vin, engine, trans it even has all five original tires! The car has 18,000 miles on it and has been stored since 1963 some of it inside and some of it outside. It has never left California since it arrived here from the old country. Unfortunately it has some rust areas both rockers & rear luggage area. It has been 15 years since I have done anything like this and this car has some rough areas. Any ideas out there???

I doubt you will make any money... Unless you paid 500 for it and you could prob depending on condition get a few grand for it. But once you start the resto good luck makin money. Most of us do this cause we love the cars themselves.. I say dump it or throw a few bucks in it and have a cool old vert :D

By parting out the car, you may make a few extra bucks over what you paid for it, but what are you going to do with the carcas? The extra money you make may not be worth your time and effort. If you restore it to any appreciable degree, you will not likely recover your money dollar for dollar in a quick turn-around resale.

If you're enticed by "flipping" to make money, you need to look elsewhere, like houses. Old bugs is not really where you're going to make enough money to justify the time and effort. If you dont care about the originality of the car and cannot appreciate that original, intact cars are becoming progressively rare, you should sell the car to someone who does. You will likely recover the money you have in it and put it toward something that may give you greater financial returns.

I have flipped no less than sixty plus Volkswagens over the past thirty-five years but have not done any in about fifteen years nor one that needs this much attention. I would love to see this car put back into its deserved condition thats what makes it so hard. I have seen some others advertised for up to 20k I not sure if they are selling for that? I am a Volkswagen Service Manager and have all the contacts to make this car right and for the right price. I am willing to drop up to 12-15k into the car if I think I can get into the 20-25k $ I know it would take some effort and at least one year. So that is the reason I can not ignore parting it out. Tough stuff. My goal is to turn some cars and build up the fund to get a 23 window bus for my wifes retirement. Any help on what a very clean complete #'s matching 59 vert will sell for? I too enjoying seeing old cars taken out of the weeds and cleaned up for the show. If ths works I would love to do a few more.

Theres only about 11k verts made in 59 i think less. Dont part it out . keep it . or sell to someone that will bring it back. Keeping it is money in the bank. i know people that have 57chevys ,impalas stashed for cash. Parting it out will only be one less on the road.

Are the rocker panels rusted?....... Or heater channels?

Post pics. I'd bet it isnt any rougher than the majority of the cars east coasters have to tackle. It would be a shame to part out a restorable late '50s vert, you don't see a lot of them over here.

Its all about finding the right person to buy it.. I would be leary of dropin 15k into a vw to try to make 20-25k even being a 59 vert.. But as you stated your exp in sellin acvw you might be able to do it.. A resto to original 59 vert could prob bring your 20-25k goal. But it might take forever to sell and it most likely wouldnt be a local sale so if your willing to dive in then i say go for it.. Just dont part it out.. If you dont want to resto it then you could sell it now and get more than you paid.. Just my 2 cents
