oktober wrote: Hey All,
Just wanted to update you on the Oktoberfest and let you know that I'll be at your meeting on the 21st. You all are welcome to camp out all weekend, and like last year, you get free admission to the Oktoberfest if you arrive in your VW. The camping area is going to be back near where the car show was last year. The page for Leakoil on the Oktoberfest website is: http://www.bereaoktoberfest.com/leakoil_vws.php.
To view a map of the grounds to see where you'll be camping, visit this link: http://www.bereaoktoberfest.com/images/oktoberfest_map2008.pdf
We've talked a bit about your giving a presentation on your vans, and I've reserved a slot for you in our new Educational Building for a 1/2 talk from 6:00pm-6:30pm on Sunday. You can pull one or more VW's into the building, and we have one wireless mic available, as well as audio/visual equipment if you have any need for it (an elevated 8' screen). I loved the hack fixes idea, but also maybe some history on VWs would also be cool. Whatever you guys want to do is ultimately fine with me, but the half hour is yours.
As for the Oktoberfest itself, we'll be having the Microbrew Competition Friday night with Disco Inferno playing. Saturday night is the Spazmatics, and Sunday night is Cleveland's Breakfast Club. They've been voted by Scene Magazine as basically the best 3 cover bands in the Cleveland area, so it should be a lot of fun. The Bier Band is back again this year, as is sand sculptor Carl Jara (he's going to be sculpting the Von Steuben Day Parade scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off). Our new Educational Building (where you'll give your talk: http://www.bereaoktoberfest.com/educational_building.php ) will also feature movies, home brewing demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, book siginings, and food/beer pairing talks. Lots of food again this year: Der Braumeister, 7 Roses, Schmidt's of Columbus, Old Bag of Nails Pub, Chef's Choice Meats, Castro's Catering, Michael's Bakery, Sophie's Italian Sausage, Helmut's Streudel, Mapleside Farms... etc. In addition to the Best Oktoberfest Microbrew Competition, Hoffbrau will be adding to their beer lineup. In addition to Hoffbrau Lite and Hoffbrau Dark, which they had last year, they'll also have a Heffeweitzen (sp?), and their own Oktoberfest bier. The Bud Girls are supposed to be coming in addition to the Jaeger Girls (who were there last year as well). Art Market at last report had doubled in size from last year, and the organizers of the National Dachshund races have decided to move the championship to the Oktoberfest. Like last year, we'll have the big tent with a large dance floor and traditional German Musik, as well as an International Pavilion with dance and musical acts from 15 different cultures. There's a whole bunch of other stuff that we've added, but I fear I lost most of you twenty lines ago  Let me know what you all think, and I look forward to seeing you on the 21st!
Cheers,
