Just picked up an engine for my 63 ragtop and would like to know what modifications will I have to do to get it to fit. I also tried to find the manufacture date on the Samba tech page. But It didn't go that high. Would some body please tell me when this engine was made

Case #AH098693. It does have an Alternatior on it.. What are my starter options?

Motor is late '73 model year, DP 1600.

If your car is still 6V, you will need to change the flywheel to a 6V flywheel. You can use any old 180mm 6V flywheel, but The Noof wrote: You will have to use the steel shim gasket on the back of the crankshaft, because the 12v crankshaft/flywheel used an oring instead. Adjust your endplay accordingly.

You could also use a pre-66 Bus or Type 3 flywheel which is 6V but 200mm, or best of all a 66-only Bus or T3 flywheel which is 6V, 200mm, and uses the o-ring. Any 6V starter will be fine if you go the 6V route.

Or you could convert the car to 12V.
