| i was curious if there is a cheap way to add power steering to a kit car. i am making one that weighs about 1600lbs and using a standard type 1 front beam like to make it little easier to turn. only thing i have to add is the engine is a motorcycle engine so any way to electrical power one or something and do so fairly cheap looking at possibly producing them |

I was looking into that years ago when I was building my Sterling. The only things that I could find were electric units used in some of the smaller GM cars, but then you need the computer to operate them (otherwise you'd make a turn and try to straighten out - and can't). Logistically, the only point you 'need' power steering is at parking lot speeds. So you have to ask yourself is it worth trying to fabricate something to work or can you live with the car's simplicity? Otherwise, you'll be fabricating brackets for a steering pump and trying to figure how to add the rack to a Beetle beam. Modify the car to fit a Mustang II front suspension and the rack gets a little easier, but you still have a pump to fit on a motorcycle engine...

| In a real recent Hot VWs - somebody had an A-arm suspension conversion for VWs. It was a featured article. I don't remember what steering rack they used, but this may be an option........ |
