My 2.1 L Automatic 88 Wolfsburg with 237,000 miles on it just had the head gaskets start leaking after a short overheating a month ago. My heads were rebuilt at 175,000 but when the van overheated it cracked the head gasket and coolant is now leaking out slowly.
Joe in Maryland at EVWParts.com has a rebuilt 2.1L engine for sale that has had the case cracked, crank checked, heads rebuilt, resurfaced, if there was any pitting it has been fixed, and it has a 3 point valve job with all German gaskets and seals all with a 1 yr warranty and core exchange.
Has anyone here ever purchased one of Joe's / EVWParts.com Rebuilt Engines?
Just wondering if anyone can give me some feedback?
So far I hear good things on the vendor front, just thought that someone here may have purchased one their engines.
Thanks to everyone in advance for the feedback.

| Ask him if he rebuilt the connecting rods. Big end bolts are a problem on the 2.1 with high miles. |

Robert,
I thought that there was talk on the Vanagon mailing list (from Chris, wasn't it?) that there were two different Joes and that the one doing the engine rebuilds wasn't the same as EVWparts. Maybe you could follow up with Chris to see if there really are two different people.

Yeah this is VWJoe@compuserve. His shop is in Maryland and he runs EVWparts.com.
I checked with Chris and its two different guys. He has no knowledge of EVWparts.com.
I have never seen his shop, from the photos I found online it does not show the shop very well. Just some of their equipment which looks Ok. It was off a myspace.com page.
If anyone has any opinions on working with them I am listening.
Thanks to all who provide feedback.
