So the previous owner told me that the heater fan switch fused and that he broke it and therefore the fan is not being actuated upfront. The rear works and If I place the sliders on the right possition the heat comes out of the front.
The front switch is indeed not doing anything for the fan. The PO included a new switch. How do I take the heater face plate and assembly appart to replace the switch?
I thought it would be like the scirocco's where you take the slidders of by pulling and then take the flace plate out. On trying this approach I broke the knob of the bottom slider  I don't want the hurt the van anymore. The Haynes manual is rather lame in this departtment. Can someone guide me until I get my Bentley?
Thanks,

| You're correct that you pull the slider knobs off but they can be pretty stiff due to the age of the plastic and dirt collected on the metal lever. I'm sure you found out, as I did, that they are a hard plastic with a bonded rubber knob on the end. If there's any way you can grab the plastic I think you will be better off. Also, don't have the knobs aligned when you pull them off or you're likely to crack the faceplate where it has the thin plastic divider between the levers. Put the knob you're removing in the center and put it's mate off to one side, if that makes sense. If you can spritz the point where the knob attaches to the metal lever with WD40 or the like it will probably help. You should be able to do that by removing the ashtray and maybe the instrument cluster cover. Lastly, I bought a couple replacements from GoWesty or Van-Cafe after I broke mine, and they slid on and off much more easily than the old hardened ones. |

| You may be able to pull the facia forward a bit and then access the back side through the ashtray. You can pull the knob off the fan, then pull the plug out through the back. THe switch kind of comes of by sliding it side to side on the facia. you can simply test it y pulling the plug off the rear through the ashtray access and then plugging your replacement before fitting it to see if this corrects the problem. |
