Hey all,
I've used the search feature and found a couple of threads about this, but has anyone came up with a reliable method for replacing or doing away with that silly wire spring that wraps around the rockers to hold the pushrod tubes down on the 2.0 Liter Air Cooled engine? That thing just keeps binding up the push rods or getting stuck under the rocker arm assembly and puts the whole thing in a bind.
I read that you can put silicone down instead, but that seems risky.
Better still...does anyone manufacture a more stout, and less tangly version of the stupid thing?
Thanks,

I bought a set of springs from German Supply, but a lot of people don't use them anymore and use Locktite 565 (which looks like "liquid teflon" only a bit thicker) at the seals with no leaks.....

Go here to "hazetguy"'s post and picture and make sure you are installing them correctly.

| I don't know if this spring wire has changed since the design used on my 1.8 liter that I built for my '73, but my experience was that once I figured out the correct orientation and got it aligned properly in the grooves in the rocker arm assembly it didn't give me any trouble. It seems like a pretty questionable design and if there's a reliable way to eliminate it I would probably opt for it if I still had Type 4 aircooled engines. |
