| I was told the 2.1L engine has hydrolic lifters. No azdjust needed. Is this true? I ran across a deal that said they need to be adjusted. Just checking. |

I'm not an expert, but I do know that both the 1.9 and 2.1 have hydraulic lifters and normally require no adjustment. Now maybe under certain conditions, like things have been fooled, the valve clearance needs to be adjusted, but normally, no.

| Ed's right; late Type 4 aircooleds (including the early vanagon engines) and both models of wbx all used hydraulic lifters. No periodic adjustment is required. The best way to use them is to set 'em and forget 'em. You will not make them work better by fiddling with them. |

If it were me, I'd ask the seller why they think the valves need adjusting. I'd also ask if he tried adjusting them.
Can you hear the engine running? Is there valve noise?
Some things I know of that may cause valve noise:
A lifter(s) that leaks down. Stuck internal parts on the lifter(s). Lifter(s) failure.
A leaky lifter may pump up after Vanagon is driven a while.
Cheers,
Neil. |

| Thats what I thought being they are hydrolic. The thing I read was wrong. Thanks for the confirmation. |
