View original topic: Bug beats Jetta - wife's test drive

My wife patted and apologized to our 98 Jetta.
She drove the 58 sedan around and said it drives nicer. She was surprised that she had to push on the brake pedal. Most cars now with disk brakes all around have power assist.
No power steering? I explained that the big steering wheel makes power steering. Also the spare up front is the air bag.
I was a little worried. She took off at 8:30 as it was getting dark and didn't come back until after 9:00. I was ready to fire up the search party. Then along came the golden glow of the headlights down the street.
She had managed to open the sunroof by herself and had the radio cranked.
Made me feel good to know this wasn't just a labor of love and that the car is just a cute outdated antique.
I took the kids out to breakfast yesterday and to soccer practice. They love the bug. Also, anytime I stop somewhere, people gather to look and get an inside tour. Dad's explain to their kids that the engine is in back and there isn't a radiator. Not that kids today know what a radiator is. They are probably wondering where the ipod dock is.

if she did not like the Beetle she would have only been gone for less than 2 minutes. :D

That is sooo funny right there... Every car show I have my bug in, the father comes around the back of the car with his kids...Points... And says "Seeeeee!!" Must have happened at least 4 times at my last show...What a riot...

I hear ya about the wife liking the beetle. My wife used to roll her eyes at me when I'd polish the chrome for hours... Now she wants one. She even searched and found the one she wants...LOL Great stuff.
