i have sent you a PM. maybe we can collaborate in the future.
your split deserves a better future, just like mine has now. if it's not a worked on split , welded and repaired, it will mean nothing to you.
mine got me new friends, new skills, knowledge, satisfactions, confidence, all i had for this hobby until then was nothing until i started turning my split back to where it is now.
i hope to see a thread here just like i did. and be sure i'll check it every time for updates.
Mihai
PS your split looks like my 74 sparkaefer, but very dusty, abused and incomplete..

Then maybe the title, "June 1952 molested split slow and painful refresh" is not true after all. Compared to some builds, this one was fairly quick, and I see no pain, only triumph. |

at the start i said to myself that would be a correct thread title. who would have thought i could do it in a summer? painful refresh... let's not forget that for some summer months i almost made the garage my bedroom, worked at nights and repaired the split during day. broken fingernails, cuts and bruises, burnt skin from welding, inhaled dust,.. these also do count as painful.
i cannot say this was a restoration in the true sense. the rest is to follow, i still have not taken it off the pan, the paint is cheapest possible and i still have lots of things to improve. i just wanted it functional and correct looking as soon as possible, on a very tight budget. i am happy now but this is not over yet, and i am still preparing some surprises. |

| Some could say it wasn't a painful refresh since the Split has been done for a bit and as you say still more to do. The fact is anybody who saw the car from the beginning knows the work that was done was no easy task, yes one could say it got to this point pretty quickly, but it didn't get done to this point sitting on your butt. Hours and hours of work and thought have gone into your car and one can see the love and vision you put into it. If one wants to restore or save a VW you can't just park it in the garage and tell everybody how much work it needs, Just get of your ass and do it even if it's a small thing it still needs to be done. | I wasn't trying to diminish all the hard work and labor that went into it. I'm saying that it may have been faster and less painful than first thought. |

I simply LOVE that pic ! Probably one of the rarest beetles in your country and having spendt so much work it still gets parked in the lot, close to or even on the lawn....I bet a lot of the restorers wouldn't even park their bugs on their OWN lawn...
Good to see another guy driving a cool old car rather than showing off or even locking them up in their garage.
Greets from Austria ! |

These are the semaphores done with all the parts you sent.. correct code ribbed semaphores... thanks to you i got what was right for the split in the first place :D
after the split is taken off the pan, painted the right way and reassembled to a higher degree of quality it will be stored inside the garage where my 58 ragtop resides now. asi it sits, the elements can't do any harm, i didn't even washed it after completion, the rain and snow were enough to do so. a man that spends alot of money on a car like this will always keep it safe , but i agree, even 100% restored, it must be driven at least during the weekends, everywhere. |

ashtray done... pretty functional for a copy, although i'm a non smoker.
i like the aged look on the ashtray metal, it gives it that old look i was after.
ashtray knob soon to come, the one pictured is just for reference, not mine. |

yes it is a split!!
Hopefully your car will end up as nice as eurodub's. :) The fool who made your split look like a fatchick (1968 or newer) needs to be taken out back of the barn and shot, unless that's already been done by another split purist.
