I am working on a 66 beetle, and its missing the decklid spring. I am finding 2 different styles, and am wondering what years will fit.
These 2 pics are from the classifieds. I see people advertise ones like the fisrt one, and they say 56-64.
And then I see them advertise ones like below for 68 and later.
Anyone know which one will work on a 66? |

| The style of spring on the bottom should be correct for a 1966, that is the style which is on mine, and is used on the later 68 and up as well |

This type was used on 1956-60 cars.
The 2pc was used from 1961-2004
Either style will fit & work fine |

2004 was the last year of the beetle.
We happened to see the last 2 Ultima Edicion that were heading to the Smithsonian when they passed through Texas.
and Right now we have a 99 Mexi Beetle we are working on |

Really? I think it was 1965 and newer. I'm pretty certain I still have the original spring on my 62, and it's the one-piece style. I fixed up a 61 many years ago that was pretty original that had the one-piece spring as well.
I just dug into Progressive Refinements and found it, they went to the "Hood spring with toggle link" at the same time they changed to the pushbutton decklid handle, at the start of model year 1965, on 3 Aug 1964, chassis number 115000001 |
