alright I finally realised that since I'm going to college real soon I wont be able to get my hands on a bug, engine or anything for like the next 8 months. So instead I decided I'll just keep gathering information and other stuff that I can do in my little dorm room.

so anyways, I've heard of everyone referencing the "Baja Bible" and am working on getting myself a copy, but does anyone recommend any other books to get me vw savy before I get myself into a project I'm not ready for?

Baja Bugs and Buggies by Jeff Hibbard

How to Build a Dune Buggy by Earl Duty

How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive 19 Ed: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot (Paperback)
by John Muir

How to Hot Rod Volkswagen Engines (Paperback)
by Fred William Fisher

The Baja Bug and Idiot guide are the best ones out there... someone else wanna chime in?

I've been looking into getting these ones already, and thanks for the other suggestions, I'll look to those if i seem particularily lost after the first two books.

They're pretty cheap used on Amazon. You probably want to get a list of good parts to keep an eye out for. Every now and then I see free leftovers or find a good deal on some trick parts.

I always get a Haynes manual for every car I ever get, the wiring diagrams are the besti in my opinion. But I also have a chiltons and a bently, as well as most of the above mentioned books.

amazon seems to be a good place to get em, The idiots guide and "bajas and buggies" are $20 for both used. might jump on that pretty soon.

and I'm definately keeping my eyes open for some good deals or free parts (going to santa cruz, plenty of old VW's up there) that i guess I'll store in my dorm. Hell, i might even end up stashing a longblock under my bed or something lol.

sounds like you got a plan! i think if you keep your eyes open youll save yourself alot of money. just keep your eyes on the classifides, craigslist, dont forget az baja has a classified too! start gathering parts.
