View original topic: Help me identify my engine

Hi.

I recently bought my first Guia. It's a 1966 model. Now the mistery of the engine is as follows:

- the engine code is H0424220, which would be a 1500 single port (I think ?) and correct for the model year.

- but.. it has a 34-PICT3 carburator, which from what I read can only be used on the 1600 dual port ??

- the service history I got from the previous owner shows a receipt for purchase and installation of a 1600 DP short-block.

Now I'm confused? Does a short-block comes without the engine code...and the one in there is from the old engine???

Appreciate any help.
Thanks.

A 1966 ghia originally came w/ a 1300 cc single port (engine code F0). The 1500 single port was 67-69 Type Is. Your engine likely uses the single oil relief case of an old 1500 SP rebuilt as a 1600 DP. That's pretty common. I have a single relief 1600 DP lying around. The part that confuses me, however, is that a "short block" doesn't have heads, pistons, or cylinders. My guess is that it was actually a long block, which includes those items or that the car had already previously had a 1600 DP heads and 85.5 mm pistons and cylinders that were used to complete the long block. The easiest way to tell is to look at the intake manifold. Single ports have a one piece manifold leading to a single intake port at either end. Dual ports have separate and noticeably wider dual port end pieces that are attached to the mainfold w/ rubber boots and clamps.
