The Ghia is looking great Udo...just beautiful :D
We had a rare sunny day today but I couldn't get out to drive my Ghia. I have a bad neck at the moment and it hurts to drive. :(
I have just recieved my SS 4 tip exhaust for my '58 but I will have to get my friend to fit it for me. My wife will kill me if she finds me crawling under my car. :roll: |

Very nice photo's Udo. I would love to travel to Europe one day !!
Not to change the subject but I wanted John to know that I also Have the Okrasa Repro 4-tip on my 67 and wanted to add some insight;
The muffler fits very close to the body and generates enough heat to burn paint. I installed foil backed insulation under the rear deck and apron to protect the paintwork.
It does have a great look and sound 8) |

I wonder if it would have to do with differing engine sizes?? I have a 1971 1641cc dual port in my 67. I have no expeience with lo-lights. Would the engine bay be any different? |

The 40hp block is slightly larger than the 36hp and I would think the 1600 case is also larger than the stock 36hp. I would think it's more to do with who produced the exhaust.
I know Kevin's 4tip is one of Stephane Lhonneux's Stainless Steel versions and they are a very good fit. The mild steel versions are the Flat4 product which have all kinds of fit issues. Which one do you have?
This is my third 4 tip. Initially I had a Flat4 fitted to my 36hp Judson Beetle and that was a very poor fit...it had to be cut 'n shut in 5 places before it would line-up with the heater boxes and fit under the rear apron.
Stephane also bought a Flat4 exhaust to fit his vintage speed project 4 years after me and found Flat4 had still not addressed the fit problems. This prompted him to make the high quality SS version with proper attention to the fit.
I had one of Stephanes first 4 tips to replace my crap Flat4 one and it was a simple bolt on...a perfect fit on my Beetle.
The new one I have is another of Stephane's SS 4 tips, this time a 40hp for my non stock engine on my Lowlight. It's not fitted yet but I would be surprised if it was not a good fit. I'll let you know how it goes. |

Yes, I purchased Stephanes' about 2005. The fit to the engine was very good, just tight. (Close to the rear deck and apron as stated earlier). I brought up the issue as something to watch for when fitting it.
Happy trails and clear sky's to all 8) |

Yeah thanks KK. I think it's not a bad idea to fit foil backed insulation whatever the fit of the exhaust. I find my stock 40hp exhaust heats the rear apron a bit and as the rear most part of the engine tin has been trimmed to fit the engine aperture by the PO it might suggest the 40hp engine sits a little further back in the Lowlight engine bay.
...back to KGs on a sunny day. :D |

Thanks for the photos, Udo! Glad you could enjoy your beauiful Ghia. Here in the NorthEast USA (Connecticut) we also had fantastic weather past weekend. I drove my '64 Ghia cabrio (top down) to a vintage car meet (spectating only) and saw a friend there with a fine solid, original '68 Ghia coupe on display. Acorns are dropping from the oak trees onto the driveway, a sign that the summer is coming to an end. So drive your Ghia while the weather still allows!
