Also, I have this front hood lock assembly...is there supposed to be a seal before bolting those two screws through the body to the hood lock?
Also, can I use a used front hood lock wire but just cut off the knob (it was from a coupe). Or is best to just buy a new wire for the hood lock?
Thanks,
Eddie

HI Eddie,
It is difficult to explain it in English, but I will give a try
Picture 1:
Those are rubber dops that should be mounted on your front axel.
Picture 2: Dont know
Picture 3: left is mounted on the rear axle to hold the brake line. Right looks like a part of the shifter.
Picture 4: Clips for the front stabilisator stang.
Picture 5: Looks like to parts to use with the bolts to mount the body on the pan.
Picture 6: dont know exactly
Picture 7: Parts to connect your steering to the front beam. The other parts is for the cluth cable to mount to the gear box?
Picture 8: Are used in combination with the ones on picture 4
Regards

My '66 cabrio has exactly the same part for the hood release and there was no rubber seal. Given that car was very original, I'm inclined to think it left the factory like that. For prior years, I couldn't say. However, I'm thinking of making up some sort of a thin gasket when I eventually refit mine. It seems to need it.
A new wire would be better, provided the replacement has the same tensile strength. If not, reuse what you have. You don't want the inconvenience should it to ever break or come loose!

They should press on over a stud
Perhaps the steering column grommet ??
left is mounted on the rear axle to hold the brake line. Right looks like a part of the shifter. As per pbabtist
Front stabilizer bushing clamps. The sleeves in the last picture are the locking plates that hold the clamps to the stabilizer bar
Body-to-Pan Bolt plate. You should have 24
The one with the part # on it is speedometer cable-thru-fender well seal. I'm not sure what the other two grommets or stoppers are for.
Steering Box Arm. Bowden Tube for the clutch cable.
The sleeves for the stabilizer bar clamps in pic#4
Hope it helps 8) |

All of you are awesome! Thanks for the input.
I didnt put the body back on the pan so I hope those plates were just extras that got mixed in with my stuff.
Does anyone know of a book or manual that has an exploded view of the entire front axle and steering assembly so I make sure those missing parts get fitted?
Im gonna label all those parts with your input (so I dont forget!)...
Thanks again,

Look for this manual. http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=v160
Here, Ebay or Amazon should have them for much less than $110  (It's still worth the money if you can't find it for less) |

Thom, are you sure? How does it mount? I cant find a diagram with the trans that looks that piece in pic 2...its about 3 1/2 inches at its widest and about 1 1/2 inches thick and made of firm rubber. It has a VW logo on the other side of it but no part number. It also has a slit through whole thing.
Thanks, Kevhum!
Thanks for the referral of the bentley manual, kingkarmann -- I have that one already. I just wanted to see if anyone was going to mention a different book that I may not have yet....

Im going to agree as I cant find a picture or diagram that has that piece. I guess it got mixed in with my parts that I got back from the restorer. Makes me wonder if I got all my parts back or did someone else get a part or two of my car <hmmm>.
Oh well, I just keep chuggin along to get my car back together..thanks for the input, Kev.
