I'm restoring a 60 Ghia convertible which started as a project mostly in boxes and the interior as a shell. This is my first vert as I had a coupe previously. At times, I've struggled to find how certain interior pieces fit together. I'm fussy and am trying to finish the car as close to factory stock as possible. I've used the internet, the Bentley manual and I have the parts manuals but still it has been a challenge to do this.
I would appreciate any advice of a source of pictures of Ghia interiors all in one place. Is there a book that someone can recommend ? Is there a CD that someone may be aware of where an early Ghia restoration was well documented ?
Thanks very much |

Well I would start at the top of the Ghia Forum section here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=198027
It's a "Sticky" with 5 pages of pictures. |

I know what you mean. I've got an early '69 'vert that I'm trying to restore to stock in every detail. I wish that there were an original car that I could go to and take hundreds of pictures of. For example, I wish I could see a factory-installed top bow seal.
The "sticky" is a good start but woefully inadequate. I expect over time that it will get better.
Best,

Thanks John. I had looked at the interior thread a while back and had forgotten about it. It is helpful but still doesn't have some of the detail I'm looking for. I unfortunately don't have access to another Ghia vert around here (Rochester NY). The ones I've seen at shows are either modified or missing many of the original pieces.
Do you know if there is a good book published with a lot of factory interior detail ?
Thanks-Frank |

I'm not sure what kind of detail you're looking for Frank.
These are examples of the kind of detail you'll find in the original Karmann Ghia Parts Manuals. The ones I've shown are from the '58 Manual but there must be someone out there who has or knows of an online source for the '60 manual you'd need.

John, I have a parts manual for my 60. I'm looking for more detail than is presented in these parts manuals. It's the little things in the interior that I need reference pictures for. The windlace is a good example; I know where it goes in general but where exactly does it end and how far from the edge ? Does it go completely under the lock pillar plate and is it sort of tapered at the end ? Another example is the early vert hinge covers (I have a 60). I bought the material from West Coast Classic but not sure how it is supposed to fit on, it glued to the metal all over of does it stretch over part of the metal, not touching part of it ?
Not sure what to do at this point. I don't want to send a post every time I need help with these little things. Everyone has been helpful but you will soon be tired of my posts.
Maybe I need to attend a bigger show to find a nice Ghia vert and take tons of pictures. There are huge shows in Virginia and Connecticut. |

Well the forum is here for exactly that kind of information. Those who aren't interested won't watch the topic anyway... so post away.
Make sure you post pictures of the parts you're asking about...1 picture's worth a thousand words.
It might initially be for your benefit but others coming along later will find it useful too. |

| Okay thanks John. I'll work on getting my interior questions with pictures together to send to the forum. |
