I am fitting the original tin for my new engine before I paint it and need to know exactly where these two go
Is the hole supposed to go arond the exhaust? If so will it be okay for me to cut that out because it will not go around the A1 header that I have. If any one has a photo of these installed I could sure use it. I printed the diagram of all the tin and i think the only thing that I am mssing is the hoover bit which I will order a copy from a vendor here at TheSamba. |

| okay, it think I got it, maybe not... which one goes on which side? I think that the hole was for the hot air pipe that went to the stock air cleaner, if so then the one with the hole goes on the drivers side. |

| The one with the hole looks to be from a '67 type I. Both sides on the 1500 type I engine have the holes. There is a pre heat tube that goes between the aircleaner, and the tins. I'm not sure if the ghias had the same set up or not?? |

When facing the rear of the car, they will go right and left as you have in your picture.
I don't recall there being a hole on mine for the left side - 1600 DP but they may have changed over the years.
They can be tricky to install by yourself while the rear breast plate is in. Very easy with t he breast plate removed. |

| The one with the hole goes on the passenger side? If so I will have to cut that part off or modify because they will just not fit. |

The one with the hole is a 67-only part. The hole is for the stubby metal tube that sucks warm air out of the cylinder area and feeds it up to the air cleaner. The hole is oval because the round pipe runs through it at an angle, requiring an oval hole.
67 Bugs have another hole on the other piece, to accomodate pre-heat for the "double-bong" air cleaner. The hole on the driver's side pice is round, since that pipe runs straight through, not at an angle. |
