There was a sweet single cab and one of those bug rv's that I saw in a "too be auctioned" book but they must have been auctioned on friday. I was only there saturday and got a few pics. There were a few other ac's there but it was mostly later model bugs.

you're joking, right? that hacked up pile of crap has been dissected to the max already, and it keeps making the rounds on the auction circuit.
here's a little bit on the discussion from this time it hit the auction block:

Uh. No. I wasnt joking. I saw a small picture of it and thought it looked great. Sorry it does not meet your impeccable standards of excellence.

well, that goes to show you are among the people who can easily have the wool pulled over their eyes by a shiny paint job and some fictitious auction hype. i am not the only one who knows that truck is an abomination. that truck should frighten even those with mediocre standards of excellence.

here is shitbox, before the fancy paint job and the shiny chrome rims (notice who posted that, and read their description and the following posts):

!

Wool pulled over my eyes? I saw a small picture in a magazine. It looked good. I liked the color. Im not king of all knowledge of single cabs.

For the record I certainly wasnt going to buy it. But get real. I mean it IS an auction where those guys slinging the cars DO get a commission for each piece that is sold. The wool is pulled down just enough for me to realize they are going to hype the shit out of everything that rolls across the block. I've only been attending it for almost 20 years now.

Seeing something in a small picture in a magazine and thinking it looks great can certainly cause one to miss certain little (or big) things that may or may not be original. Had I seen it in person I would have likely noticed more of the stuff.

But I mean really. I would NEVER purchase a restored air cooled vehicle at the Kruse auction unless I just had stupid money and then it would start with "P" and not "V". You know, like that yellow one pictured.

But back on the subject of AC's at auburn, this year all the old porsches were fucking kit cars. Spyders, speedsters, and 356 coupes but not one that wasnt fiberglass. Overall it was a pretty bad year though. There were really only about 1/3 to 1/2 of what is normally there and TONS of stuff was just not selling. Most of the things I did see sell went for way less than I would have expected.

...I do believe that yellow Van-looking thing is a "Brubaker Box"... I've only ever seen one actually in person and running, it hits the shows in the Midwest...

Right you are, it's a Brubaker Box. I'm surprised that thing didn't kill the fiberglass body on VW pan industry once and for all it was so ugly.

Yeah I have seen those online but that was the first I have seen in person.

Did they make more than one style of Brubaker Box? Here's a pic I took of the two I've seen, at the Woodstock, NY show circa 98/99:

Sorry, don't have any pics of the front, but at least those two are definitely a little different. In any event, I think both box variations are pretty cool. Hopefully I'll grow out of that phase someday.

ninja edit: Here's a front pic I found on Google:

Well I was cruisin' the classifieds today and saw this; it looks like that yellow thing posted earlier is a "Boonie Bug" featured Aug 76 hotVWs.
