| I purchased a economy disc brake kit to install on my king pin front end. The inner bearing will not slide on right at the end where the smooth spot is. Seems like it will start but like it has to be pressed on the rest of the way. The outer bearing fits fine. Is this the way there supposed to fit? Searched the forums but no luck on this problem. Also the place of purchase didn't have a clue. Thank's |

I had the same problem on the ball joint front I had. I replaced the front spindles for disk brakes and the bearings on the stock front are different sizes from side to side, i'm assuming for the mph cable running through the spindle. the aftermarket spindles used the larger size of the two.
hope this helps! |

| Both my spindals are the same dia. Not sure if they are original or not. This was a used rail I bought to rebuild. It had the narrow spindal wheels on it when I purchased it. Maybe I should check those bearings. Was hopeing there is an easy fix for it. Thanks for the reply. |

| if you use some emery paper on the spindle to clean it up the bearing should fit. |

| I thought about using emery. I did polish them up but didn't want to go too far if that wasn't the problem. Hope I don't have to change the spindles because I just put in new pins & bushings. I'll check the diameters on them later and see if I need to just clean them up some more. Thank's guys.... |

You have a problem. Possibly wrong spindle on one side .Both spindles are identical in bearing location diameter. The speedo cable hole has no effect on things. Both inner bearings are the same and both outers are the same. |

Well that much I already mentioned earlier. Both sides are the same. The inner bearing's will start to slide on, so maybe they just need dressed up a bit more to fit. I'll check the dia.'s later and see if thats the case.
Thank's |

I would be interested in seeing how a set of stock bearings fit. If they go on as they should, the bearings in the 'economy disc brake set' are out of spec.

| You need to measure the OD of the spindle and the ID of the bearing with a micrometer and a Vernier to know just how far you are away from a slip fit before, you start taking metal off the spindle. |

Thank's bowtie56jw,
I checked the diameters on the spindles. I'm sure why these are this way is because the original bearing that was run on the spindle raised up a small edge right outside of where the bearing sits. It was only about 0.001. A little light work with some emery and they fit nice. :) .
Thank's everyone for your replies... |
