View original topic: VW salvage and wide five wheels for 67 baja in Oklahoma
T.Sisco Wed Sep 03, 2008 2:49 pm

Does anyone know of any VW salvages in Oklahoma? I'm looking for a pair of used and cheap wide five 7 or 8 inch wide wheels.
I haven't had any luck searching the classifieds on the net. most are in California and won't ship. Most salvages around here have very few VW's.
Thanks for any help you can give.
God Bless.

Highway 48 south of Bristow is supposed to be a good one.

S&S in Oakhurst has some VW's also, might give them a try.

the big salvage yard was Wilson's in Tecumseh (sp?) but ot closed several years ago...

I don't have any wheels for you, but it is nice to hear of a fellow vw off-roader here in OK. I moved to Ada 2 years ago and haven't met many air-cooled fanatics here, much less off-roaders. I have a Thing that I drive everyday, and a Baja that my son and I are rebuilding for him when he drives in 1 1/2 years. The whole family loves VW's! Keep in touch and God Bless. Wes

They are available new from a variety of vendors who would happily ship them to you for well under $100 a wheel (steel). Sometimes the swap meet finds aren't as good as you think (the $20 set of Jackmans I painted and mounted on the front of my thing are out of round and can't be repaired affordably).

I second the vote for Bethany. They know VW's very well and have some surprising stuff show up in their yard. Be sure to ask for a VW guy though - like Ron. And if you have the chance, chat up Jonesy out in the yard. He's a great guy with a ton of first hand experience.

I drive to OKC just for them.

I have had good luck there, but I may have cleaned them out! I got an engine lid, a couple of t3 wheels, a late front bumper and their whole stock of PDSIT pieces.

They actually had a very nice mid 60's square for a while. I think it had a minor engine fire, but someone may have scored that. It looked too good to give up on.

67square, will we see you at the Tulsa show on the 20th?

Bethany's is the place to go and if Ron does not have it he may know where to find it! Check out Bryan Wilson here on the Samba. Do a search for "Oklahoma" and you should find some of his ads. He is in Lexington, about 15-20 miles South of Norman. He is the guy that is selling what is left of Wilson's parts. He travels a lot too, buying and selling VW parts. Give him a try!. There is a web site here in Oklahoma named "Oklahoma VW Cruisers" If you can find it, post in the classifieds there. Hope that this helps!

I have only just moved to the area and not yet been to this place, but from the website it looks like he may have a good pile of stuff. Not all that far from Claremore.

I can vouch for Wayout. They were at the Eureka Springs show, so I got to meet them, but they didn't have the 66-only window winders I needed for my T3 Ghia with them. I called them up the following week, and had them in one day.

When Derrick says he has a "nice" part for you, trust him. It will be worth it. Plus, their guy Danny knows Type 3 pretty well too. He had a very sweet N-model notch there...
