Cruised my Columbus, Georgia H.S. in one of two '68 Type 1's from '79-to '83, one Semi auto (cool at the time) and a standard tranny. Semi was "Brady Bunch Brown" and the other wasn't. :)
Bone stock Bugs to slight mods (wide fiberglass fenders, Keystone Klassics on Dunlop GTs, diamond tuck interior blasting Top 40 tunes to a killer stereo system. Baja building, adding a slight cam, Weber carbs, GT exhaust...YOUTH>>ugh! Imagine the availability of inexpensive GERMAN PARTS.
Such a simpler time tinkering all day on the Bug(s). Not much has changed for me...lol
Life is GOOD! |

| Sophomore year was the 68 sunroof squareback. Junior year was 59 standard micro. Senior year was back to the square for a little while and then on to a 65 bug. It was cool to see all three types in my barn at the same time. |

That was the plan, then we decided to steal the whole damn thing!
Actually the guy who we bought the car from said his father started the first VW dealer in the US. Cant remember his name though. |

51 Chevy fleetline deluxe just like this one only mine was grey and had gold "fuzzy" interior, skirts, visor, and two really nice flipper caps. (on the front only cause you couldn't see any on the back  )
Mine was shaved too as well as the hood. The two piece hood was leaded in. This one shown is damn close to how mine looked. I miss Her. |

73 Karmann Ghia Coupe
Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of it back then, there I am looking like a dork in the passenger seat while my bud drives. What are friends for right?
Here it is now, current plan is to take it back to funky Ravena green stock 8) |

I drove my 1970 bug I bought for $85. It lasted two weeks, the motor blew. Replaced the motor only to have the wiring harness burn up on me. I made an attempt at replacing it but it never ran again. :( After that I was driving a 1966 F-250 flat bed I bought from my brother for $100. Straight six banger with a four speed. You had to stick your hand through the dash to operate the one windshield wiper by hand. Those are two I wish I kept.

1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle. Fully stock with the 1600cc motor ... My uncle bought it in 1998, parked it in 1999, wasn't driven at all until three weeks ago when I got it running.
Needs alignment and brake work. And a latta latta latta body work.
My uncle eventually (Oct. 3rd it'll "officially" be mine :P) sold it to me for $350. |

| A 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 convertible, 4-speed, power brakes & manual steering. Everything I wanted in a car - big-block, stick-shift ragtop with good stopping and a feel for the road - but it was a Chevy. I drove that car around for a few years sporting a "MOPAR" license plate on the front - to the disgust of the GM crowd at school. They got me back, though, by stealing my factory decalled, Rochester Turbo-Jet chromed air-cleaner lid. |

My '71 standard Beetle. The only reason I keep the fatty is because of the memories. I'd had VWs before this one, but it's the car that I learned how to drive in and the first VW that I ever had to work on. I kinda miss driving it everyday now.
This was my 17th birthday, Aug '02
