I agree, I have a single quietpack and I just take the muffler off to have better access to the valves on that side. 3 bolts.

So would you say hide out or a different muffler? The fart can has got to go eventually.

Okay, done some work to it. I guess this will become my build thread. I know I know, been a long time since I posted progress.
Part of the custom dash
More of the dash

New exhaust

Different doors and lower in the rear

3" narrowed adjustable beam w/ drop spindles

How low it sat

Now with stock spindles

for that poor bugs sake please put that tach inside the car

hood mounted gauges are for dickheads in hon-duhs that mistakenly think they have power

Plans are in the works for a grafted dash out of a earlier bug. (Don't worry, I'm gonna find a bug that is pretty much destroyed) Move all of the gauges to under the dash and move the cd player to in the glovebox. On top of that, get it painted orange and get some white(like a really bright white) seats. Do black carpet and a white headliner. Along with some other things. This will no longer be my d.d.

actually it's for factory installed accessory tachometers in old American Iron...that, incidently, did have a little power...

I like the hood mounted tach cause it's something different around here. But, the weather screws with it a lot. It's gonna get mounted under the dash. Eventually.

Got to pulling up the forward carpet and tarboard to see how much of the pan I need to replace. Amazingly enough, pretty solid but I'm gonna replace the entire passenger side just cause it'll be easier. The drivers side is almost perfect except for a little spot near the pedal cluster. You can barely see it and the rust seams to be only surface rust.

Passenger side front
Drivers side rear
Passengers side rear

My super sit low in back will the air shocks pick up the rear and make ride comfortable?

Endicott jb Tue Nov 24, 2009 9:16 am

Just re index your torsion bars/spring plates. It's not hard. There is a thread on it.

Low69 Tue Nov 24, 2009 9:49 am

Lookin good cant wait to see the rest of the progress. When I bought my 69 they had the rear and the front sitting on the bumpstops well at least I brought up the front now. Just curious what did you do with the spindles you took out of it I may be interested in them if you still have them

Endicott jb Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:52 am

Right now they are sitting in my "back Seat" but when I get some smaller wheels and tires I plan on putting them back on.

W. T. F.?

SO glad you got rid of that crap!! Nice job!

Endicott jb Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:01 pm

Alright, so I got some new stuff for the interior. Starting with a back seat. :D :D, some stock low back front seats to replace the ghetto rigged "custom" buckets, and some 3 point seat belts out of a later model. Finally cleaned out the new tank I got last weekend but still gotta wire wheel or sand the outside, paint it, and figure out a way to mount it so the steering column doesn't hit it. I'll post some pictures up tomorrow if I get the chance.

Endicott jb Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:05 pm

I forgot to mention that the passenger front seat is one of those cool old recliner types. :D :D

[img]http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/499429.jpg(*,) no no no no no no no. that is soo wrong! the PO should get arrested for bug abuse.

Endicott jb Tue Dec 08, 2009 11:15 am

Alright, gonna put the bug to sleep for about six months. Going to leave for Afghanistan either Friday or Sunday. Means gonna put the new fuel tank in today after work and clean out all my junk so I can put it in base storage. When I come back though, whoa boy, watch out. Gonna get it done quick.

Hey, be careful, keep your head on a swivel. I never envied you jarheads (no offense intended). I didn't want to get shot at. That's why I spent 20 years as a squid.
