My engine has been running pretty bad and not even running long at times. Checked out the plugs and wires, got spark. checked the compression, #1 was at 90, #2 was at 90, #3 was at 88 and #4 was at 60. The engine is a 1915.
Started calling arround for a quote to get a rebulid, so far prices range from $800 to $2500, depending on what is wrong. Im looking for reccomendations on shops in the San Diego area. A few people at work reccomended these places.
So far I have called;
Kline VW repair
Bug Patch
VW Paradise
B&R buggys
Any body got input on these places?
Im also taking donations for the rebuild :lol: |

| do it yourself, if things were done right the first time around with the engine then you should be able to do a simple rebuild by yourself. |

| no doubt, do it yourself.A top end kit is 200 bucks and a valve job is 100 or so, or you could leak check your heads yourself and pull the springs off and lap in the valves and run them. It's all pretty straight forward, as long as you don't have problems with the case studs. |

Alrighty, where do i get the parts from? Looked at Moore parts, there are a lot of different sizes, which ones are correct size for a 1915?
I got a Chiltons mannual, it has an overhaul section, is that what I should follow?
Is there a Sticky on doing this?
Danny Im going on a 6 day, lets do it! |

94mm X 69mm, just found this size from Chirco. The more I sit here and think about it, the easier it seems.
So I need, Piston and cylinder kit, gasket set, and rebuild the heads, Should I get new pushrods and tubes? How about a parts list. Any special tools needed? |

you will need new pushrod tubes and seals, you also may not have to redo the heads, it depends on the shape they are in and the money you want to spend. |

check your pushrods on a piece of glass for straightness and check for blockages. |

| When you get the heads off, turn them upside down so the combustion chamber is facing up and pour some brake cleaner or solvent into the combustion chamber,Let it sit and watch for fluid coming out the ports. If it is leaking then you will definately want to have the heads done or buy new ones. Also I would recommend buying Teflon Buttons to replace the wrist pin clips. |
