I aquired a glass buggy a few months ago and am having a tough time getting the rear brakes sorted out. they are 5 lug drums p/n 113-501-615a, the shoes are 30mm wide, and long spline axles. I got the spacer to take up the spline length behind the axle nut figured out. It is IRS if that matters.
`But now when I tighten the axle nut down the drum is catching on something inside of it. So I applied a thin film of paint to the inside of the drum, installed it, and found what is interfering. It is the pins that go through the center of the drum. They are too long. They stick out past the shoe surface close to 3/8". The pins are 32mm in overall length.
`Is there a shorter pin / spring combo that will fix this ? Or another solution ?
Thanks in advance |

| I think the pins and springs you are talking about are the ones that hold the shoes against the backing plate. Do your pins first go through the backing plate, then the shoes, then the springs and retainers and then rub against the inside of the drum? If they do, they're the wrong ones. Get a new set of sedan rear brake hardware. |

you are correct on which part it is, They are from a new set. I am really hoping that they have sets with different pin lengths. |

| I just did the brakes on my 61 pan. Pins and springs for rear brakes are shorter than the rear. maybe you have front pins and springs on the rear? :? |

| You will need to get the spring kit for the early model brakes at the rear of the car, That will let the installed springs fit. |

| The last two times I have purchased drum brake kits, the wrong retaining pins were provided. I ended up going to the auto parts store and buying a variety of them until I found a set that worked. Irritating. Has a lot to do with the parts in one kit being made all over the world. |

I need a pin kit from a 57 I am being told. Anybody have one laying around, or a source ?
Stupidly I tossed the old pins when I installed the new ones, and waited 2 weeks before I put the drums back on. I blew it on this one. |

| If they are not too far off you can shim the rears with some washers. |
