View original topic: Type 3 torsions bars?

I plan to raise the rear on my 74 baja soon, whatever amount is appropriate for stock arms and CVs (I have the book, I'll look that part up). Since my baja is all steel would there be any benefit at this time to sticking in the 71 T3 torsion bars I have? I'm guessing those are heavier duty since a squareback weighs more, but its just a guess.

yes the type 3 ones are a couple mm larger diameter and therefore stiffer

It will be since you can run less preload it will ride better.

ok so then i guess with all new (to the car) bars it won't be a case of counting how many splines i went up, but of:
1 installing, letting the car down to see where it sits
2 and then taking it apart again to readjust.

any suggestions on what angle to set it with when its off the stop as a starter? I'm running stock CVs.

bigger more durable bars will be good since anything more durable is nice, and my last trip was more like rock crawling which beat the hell out of the car.

I would set it between the top and the middle of the lower mounting hole for the spring plate cover. Later irf you upgrade to T-2 cvs you can notch the spring plate about 3/4 " to get some droop with T-1 cv's about 1/4 "is all you can notch them.
