Just need the right tires and a heavy foot.

Checking out a new trail today and ran across this rock that looked like it outta have a Bug crawling on it. It took a few tries to get the right line, but here's the resulting video.

After I made it, I walked around and looked at the other side. Looks like it'd be a very interesting climb up from the other side. I'd want someone with a big winch handy before attempting that.

I'm building one. Every time I break something, I upgrade.

When I got the car, I wasn't sure what I'd be doing with it. I'd wanted a Baja for years, but not one to only drive on the street.

If I'd started following some of the builds on here, it'd have been easy to take a wrong turn at the start. Most here are building for higher off-road speeds than mine is ever likely to see. By building as I go, I save a lot of wasted time and money by only doing what's needed for the type of off-road driving I do.

I've learned a little over the past few months. I plan on putting that to work on the Thing, when I get it.

What part of Arkansas? I have several friends over there that we usually go camping with in the fall.

Just north of Russellville. Fairly close...I have some family in tulsa.

The best upgrade for any offroad vehicle is a driver who doesn't care about scratching the paint.

That was a nice rock. Glad to see your out having fun.

Cool video! Always nice to see another offroad VW in action.

<thread hijack> A recent picture of my Thing after climbing a hill:

The picture doesn't really show the slope of the hill, it looked a whole lot worse in person. Surprisingly, the Thing did fine until 3/4 of the way up, then it started bouncing a little. Still made it just fine, first try. </hijack>

The friends I have over there are north of Morrilton on Highway 95, and some more over at Fox, close to Mountain View.

Russellville should have some decent off-roading near by I'd think.

Should have seen mine off-road today. Remember Power Line Hill? I took the trail around the left side of the tree, then turned up the steep part and kept my foot buried.

One of the guys said it looked like my front tire was about 4' off the ground. The tires dug in and pulled me to the top.

I tried going straight at the hill, but the rock ledge was a big problem. Every time I'd get the front end over it, the right rear tire would come off the ground. Not having turning brakes, I couldn't get up that side.

Paint? Which layer?

Very cool shot. Need to get a video climbing that one.

I can't wait until I get my Thing. It's gonna be a rough one, but should be a lot of fun on the trails.

The Ozark National Forest. About 20 minutes north of Russellville. Really killer trails and scenery.

Thats how i feel where i live. Even tho most people would look at my bug and say its a hoodride, a pos, a fuck bug, or whatever, its actually running. I rarely see an aircooled actually running. I am always seeing VW's, but in people's backyards, just rotting away.

Looks like fun. But when i see a baja do "gatekeeper" at calico. Then i will be impressed.

I might have to try getting over there one of these days. I'd love to try out some new trails.
