A while back I had a 58 standard that I never got around to getting running. I sold it (to a flipper unfortunately) and bought my nice 66 kombi. I like my bus, but it hasn't really grown on me with its big ass lights and hatch. I just bought it because I needed a running car for college. I still pine for small hatch buses.

I'm curious how much you guys think the market is going to cool off. Since prices seem to be dropping on our beloved cars right now, do you think I will be able to buy a decent running pre 63 window bus for under $7000 within the next year? I think I can get $6000 to $7000 for my bus, and being a college student that is all the money I would have for a new bus. I am just worried about gambling on the market coming down.

If you think this question is idiotic, then ignore it. If you dont know anything about the vw market, please watch your advice. This is the most expensive thing I own were talking about! If you have some useful input please let me know. 8)

I'd be interested to know if prices have actually gone down yet.

I'm not sure they have. I think sales may have dropped but prices have not yet so basically people are still asking the same amount, they just aren't selling anything. Dependent on price, of course...

I do a lot of searching on eBay and I did win a few things recently where I was the only bidder or there were only 2-3 bidders so the item went for a lot less than I expected. This is not for rare items but nothing that is super easy to find either. On the other hand, I still see the more rare stuff go for what I consider top dollar.

My guess would be that applies to ads here too - the rare or hard to find cars or parts will always sell. More common stuff will slow down, depending on price.
