Hi,
I have an '81 Aircooled Vanagon. It broke a camshaft and isn't going anywhere. I have a good running 2.0 out of a '76 bus. Could I strip both engines down to long blocks and swap everything around and make the '76 engine fit iny my Vanagon? Sorry if this has been covered before. I did a couple searches and found lot of stuff about Subaru motors but nothing about an older motor.
Thanks[/i] |

The dipstick location is about the only thing I remember as being diffrent.
Most people want to put old vanagon engines in bays not visa versa that's why there is so little info. on the Vanagon board.
Search "Vanagon Engine" in the bay window forum, should turn up more stuff. |

i just did this...ill be posting pics once film gets developed.....if your planning on using the vanagon cooling and heat setup youll need to drill a new dipstick spigot as mighty art said....also youll need to tap the engine mounts for 10mmm bolts unless you use a spacer sleeve or something....other than that everythings the same.....oh and youll have to remove the two lower fan housing studs |
