View original topic: 2 bays found in a junk yard

I've seen this white camper from the street a few times and decided to stop in and check out what's going on. I'm glad I did, but sad I didn't sooner!

The owner of the place tells me that he has recently had "all of those pieces of junk" hauled off for scrap. Including at least one that was running, but had a crumpled nose.

the only ones left are "a friends". I'm waiting to hear back from the friend.

The camper is pretty nasty. Its totally stripped, no glass, no interior. Looks like someone hit the passenger door with an axe.

The red one in the overgrowth is pretty cool though. Its almost completely hidden. its a 70's, judging by the high turn signals and mid 70's bumbers. The dash and front seats are in amazing condition considering the fact that half of the windshield is gone.

There is very little rust on this thing too. I was amazed. The battery tray seems to be about it! When I hear back from the friend, I'll try to rescue it. If I can't afford it, I'll let everyone else know how to get a hold of him.

If he's not interested in selling me either of them, are there any parts that you guys really need that I should try to get off of him? Looks like the westy has been pretty well picked over, but there may still be some gear in the pop top, I see a jalousey frame(no glass).

Actually, aside from a nasty dent in the passenger door... and an axe assault. the westy isn't really as rotten as it looks.

i wouldnt really bother with the jalousie window. they are a dime a dozen.
rear vent window frames that are rust free are sought after.

did he say whats going on with that blue squareback behind the westy? (or is that your ride :) )

curtain rods maybe.
I'm not committing or any thing.

Edit: Hay did i see a clock in that bus?

there are two squarebacks sitting there. a blue one and an orange one and they look great body wise. I don't know anything at all about them so I didn't look into it. I'll be sure to inquire.

As far as scavenging goes, I'm not asking for commitments. I'd get better pics of any item before I'd ask you to commit.

Man, those would be a lot of work. Minimal rust is a plus though.

That red one looks better then mine!!! Looks like it has a chrome rear hatch button too. Might want to grab that...

going back over at lunch today to follow up. I doubt I'll get any news though. the old junk yard dogs aren't too interested in dealing with me.

Sad part is that the guy who was there said he had "just towed away all the others for scrap... some of them were running too". He proceeded to inform me that parts were impossible to find so the things were worthless. he said that he had been holding on to them for years and just decided it wasn't worth it. :x

he had a computer, but there was paper taped to the screen so much that he was literally using it as a notepad. Looked like it hadn't been turned on in years. Poor guy could have made so much more off of parts alone. I think he said they get about $150 per bus for scrap.

I'm going to post the few pictures of the squarebacks in that forum. I don't know anything about them at all/ nor what he wants to do ... yet.

got a message that he doesn't want to sell the red one. I'm still going to try to talk to him directly and see what the deal is. Found out the orange squareback is for sale for $400 until later this week when he's going to have it scrapped.
