My driver side window regulator needs replaced and I am having a bear of time trying to take the old one out. I’ve removed all the 10mm bolts, but it is getting caught on something inside the door. Do I need to take the window out? Is there some special trick I’m missing? Is there a pictured technical document online?

Ahhh, the fun of replacing a window regulator :-s If you follow the regulator with your hand you will feel where it rides over a bend in the door itself. Problem is your unable to pass either end of the regulator past it due to the mounting brackets on each end of the regulator. What I do is find something that you can use to carefully wedge that area open and slide the bracket down past it. First time is a bitch, second time is a charm. I'm able to do this without removal of the window channel itself.

Ryan,
Did you take the glass out? If not do so. Then you have to lift up on the regulator to remove it. There is a hook on the inside of the door that keeps it tight against the interior skin of the door. Hope this helps you.

I held the glass up while I removed it. It is out now and I'm waiting for my replacement. Side project...

Finishing up the brake lines tomorrow and my bus will roll again.

Really? You can remove a regulator without taking out all the glass? Without damage? Wow. I've tried...

I am going to r/r my driver's side regulator this weekend as well. I found one from a '71. I have a '77 it should fit right?
