Here is my dilema.
64 Split standard 1600 t/port type1 engine with single solex carb and VA dizzy.
Recently had some work done and have now added 009 dizzy, Twin weber ICT's and bosch blue coil.
my van runs two batteries via a split charge relay
Shortly after the work was done I was driving home and noticed that the engine was jerking. I went to the petrol station and filled up with the correct fuel on leaving the petrol station the engine cut out and would not restart, Almost as if the battery was flat it wouln't start again until I took the power from the leisure battery to the dynamo it kicked back in. I was running both headlights and window wipers together at the time.
I had the Dynamo tested and everything was inorder showing 14 volts.
I also hear a popping sound which I assume is the twin carbs not correctly setup.
Please does anyone have any suggestions as to where the problem may lie. |

| In your post you said "almost as if the battery was flat". Maybe that's your answer. Did you check the voltage of the bad battery? If everything returns to normal by switching batteries, that would seem to be the obvious answer. Check the battery connections, especially the ground straps, there should be one connecting the transmission to the frame of the bus also. If you can load test that battery that would be even better. It's possible for a battery to show 12 volts on a small volt meter but not have enough amperage to start an engine. Hope this helps. |
