View original topic: Fuel line kill switch
prussell08 Sat Sep 13, 2008 7:18 am

I was a bit irked to hear from a friend that he had to scare off two guys trying to break into my bus last weekend, while it was parked in a populated beach parking lot for a couple hours. Thinking about anti-theft and don't hold alrarms in an effective regard. Thinking fuel line kill switch -- maybe two way solenoid valve on the fuel line, close to the engine...any thoughts or warnings on installing? For fun, one switch is going to be hidden well, and be the real switch, while one will be obviously hidden -- the obviously hidden switch will be connected to an air horn (just to piss of the prospective theif a bit).

prolly be cheaper and easier to do just a relay, interrupt +12v to coil or something. i like the air horn idea lol

i hate car thiefs, had a truck stolen in la jolla a few years ago..
what beach were you parked at?
i will be watching this post. ive thought about the "kill switch" idea
but whats the best / simplest version of this? i dont know. sometimes i pull the center wire off the distributor when i park. is this a bad idea, dont know that either, think i read it here.

hi and wellcome

what did you have to steal in your bus?

sounds like crackheads lookin for a fix

if someone wanted the steel the bus,...

I could go on n on about ways to lock down the bus.
1 brake lock
2 club
3 hidden ground #1 term coil
4 remove rotor
5 fuel shut off valve
6 cab air bag(removes thives, by displacing them by force)
7 super bright strobe light
8 shocking door handles
9 spray jets (sprays water at their crotch)
10 laffing witch (laffs at thives, then mocks them)

whooa that was fun :D

^^ those of course are some very good ideas.

what i had done, was make the kill switch something on the dash. i just put a ground in so that the car wont stay running unless i have the dash button pulled out and the parking lights are on.
that make sense? i know i kind of explained it in a retarted way.

o and if someone wants to break into your car, there isnt much you can do about it. i mean, if you've got some rust in your floorpan, they can just punch a hole in the floor and reach up to the door lock couldnt they?

its best just not to leave any valuables or anything shiny out in the open.

Here is what I do when I park at work:

Club
Lock everything
Take the coil wire
Lock the decklid
Close all curtains

I figure if they can't see in, they might not see anything they want. I pull the coil wire and lock the decklid so if they do get in and hotwire it, they can crank it until its dead, there is no getting in the engine compartment to realize it will never fire.

If they really want it, they will just tow it away. Park in a well lit place and pray. I always thought low jack would be cool, I have it on my motorcycle but damn its expensive.

Yeah - I'm not worried about valuables being stolen, b/c I don't have any lying around in there ever...just would be super bummed if she got stolen...I've definately read that there's not sure-fire way to keep a determined theif from taking your vw, but I'd like to discourage the average idiot. Thanks for the responses.

Might not be super duper wise to tell everyone on the internet your security secrets. Slimy people also come here to the Samba. Steve H. hung around here. If i mentioned that for security that I just let a little rattlesnake crawl arond inside, some thief might think to put on heavy leather protective clothing.

O' yea. A license plate number in your photos easily converts to an address. Nowadays people do a lot of shopping online.

ron francis/painless wiring have relays that will shut down the fuel system after the car has been taken, so no one will harm you. also a switch like someone mentioned to ground out the ignition so it will not function.
