I'm planning on finishing the resto for my 73 bus and getting a Ghia and a Vintage Bus.

So, I'm cleaning out my garage, which contains bikes, and pretty much all the trash in my house, and I'm planning on getting a load of tools and setting it up to work on restorations, including body work, and other stuff.

So yeah, I've got all the tools for a Phase I tool set(As set by the Muir Book), and a load of them for a Phase II

Is there anything else I might need?

Or anything that would be good to have?

A welder.
plasma cutter.
air tools, like grinders cutters impact wrench...
blasting stuff to remove rust.
painting stuff.
...and I could go on.

Hmm..

Where do they sell this, and how quickly can I trade my first born for it?

The gods are smiling upon us all!
I wonder if that top section could be converted into a BBQ grill. :-k

Lowes. But I don't think they have a first-born trade-in program.

I was in the same boat several years ago - here is what i found to be the "goto" tools in order of value to cost ratio:

1. High quality 120v MIG welder with cart and gas ($700)
2. electric angle grinders ($40)
3. electric orbital sander ($40)
4. shop vac ($60)
5. clamps of all shapes and sizes ($100)
6. 220v 60 gal air compressor with wiring, plumbing, air dryer/filter, hoses ($800)
7. hvlp spray gun with safety gear ($250)
8. misc. air tools (grinder, air chisel, cutoff tool, DA sander) ($200)

there are alot more tools you will need for body work - sanding blocks, hammers and dollys, etc that you just kind of accumulate as you go...

i bought a 40lb sand blaster that was a waste of money. It is definetly on the bottom of my goto tool list...a novelty item at best...

I am an engine builder, and the media blast cabinet is near the top of my list.
Knock the rust and dirt and stains right off engine tin, and heads.

A good parts washing system should be at the top of your list also.
I use a company called Crystal Clean. Every 90 days they bring fresh solvent, and take the dirty stuff away for a fee. They also furnish the equipment.

Yeah, Lowes has it... for $1800.

[EDIT] Oh look, they have it online for $100 less!

that is very reasonable... dare i say cheap, if the thing is of decent quality... ask anyone who has dropped 6-10 grand on snapon boxes...

I used to have 3 big tool cabinets. But after many years I got too lazy to walk over to the tool boxes and get the tools I needed. So everything went neatly into 2 Backpacks. One for engine tools and the other for body and suspension tools. I rarely if ever open the big boxes anymore. Besides the tool boxes wouldnt fit under the hood of my bug. And pretty much everytime I found myself needing tools, I was on the road.... :D
You dont really need that many tools to work on a bug.

One thing that was left out was to talk to your signifcant other if you have one....talk up front about your plans and what kind of money you will be spending.

Even then they sometimes get weird about it later after claiming to undertsand it and support you. ( mine did, divorce is pending)
