| Assuming that you found some AN stainless steel braided hose you can just use a standard SS band clamp. Wrap the ends of the hose with electrical tape to cover the sharp ends of the wires and then clamp over the tape. If you want something fancier looking you can buy special hose ends for AN hose from Summit Racing and others. |

wrong
68 -71 bus
The brass nipples work loose then fall out...
allways use stock fuel hose, replace every tune up or 6000miles
we have gas that eats rubber hoses these days |

p3acefr0gs, in the post you do not say what year your bus is, but I will infer from your other Post that it is a 1970 T2 Bus;
If that is correct, then FYI 68-71 use different diameter hose than many of the later FI T2’s…
The fuel line is just one part of what needs to be replaced, on 68-71 T2 Busses; it is very important to replace the grommet that goes throw the fire wall tin as well as the metal line that goes through the tin from engine compartment, because the metal line is often halfway cut through from vibrating against the fire wall tin after the grommet wears through…
www.germansupply.com has a kit that has most the parts that should be replaced when doing fuel line fire prevention maintenance, http://www.busdepot.com has most of the parts also but not as a kit with correct clamps… :0)
As Mobiltune mentioned; I too have seen several 34 PTIC-3 where when you pull on the fuel hose to remove it and the brass insert pulls out! i.e. one should always check for this problem when working with any 34 PTIC-3.
The kits below have what would be wise to replace if it has not been done already…
Part Number: GS 104 Kit Fuel Line / Hose Kit 68-71 Bus w/ Upright Engine
Germansupply Exclusive. This kit has everything you need to replace the fuel hoses on a Bus from 1968-1971. Includes German cloth braid fuel hose in pre-cut lengths, premium quality hoseclamps that fit and won't destroy the hose, a new fuel filter, a genuine VW firewall grommet and detailed instructions. Also includes a new pre-bent metal line for passing through the firewall, special 3-station plastic clip to secure the metal line to the fan shroud and a fuel filter. Requires an end cutting tool to crimp the hose clips. Prevent engine fire in your Bus by replacing your fuel lines with our kit!
Fuel Tank Renew Kit Bus 68-71
Part Number: GS121Kit
This kit has everything needed to reseal your 68-71 Bus fuel tank filler and vent connections. If you remove your tank for cleaning, this is the kit you need when you replace it. Contains the large fuel filler hose from filler neck to tank, two small breather vent hoses, fuel filter, 5 feet of German cloth-covered 5mm fuel hose, 8 OE crimp style fuel hose clips, fuel tank spigot and filter screen
End Cutting Pliers - Suitable for OE Crimped Style Fuel Line Clip
Part Number: CPCEC7
End cutting pliers, economy grade. These pliers work perfectly for crimping our OE crimped style fuel hose clips. Click here to download an instruction sheet on crimping hose clamps in .pdf format. (you get to see what the clamps should look like)
Good Luck |

| I still use and prefer the German hose with the fabric braided outer cover. The normal steel braided hose with the nice outer shielding is great for abrasion issues and protecting the outside from outside damage. But it still has the same inner rubber conductor. The steel braid has nothing to do within holding the gas in. No improvement. Even worse, if the rubber starts failing you won't really see a leak until you see puddles down below. With the fabric braided hose it is easy to spot dampness. But there is a steel braided hose with a teflon interior. That would probably be a good one. Regardless of the hose, that Solex inlet connector is a fire waiting to happen. Don't know if the Bocar or other brands have that problem. Mine pulled out of the carb in the bug in the freeway fast lane. Suddenly the engine just quit. Coasted to the side and discovered my engine totally drenched in gas. Fortunately no fire. Evidently the fitting came out and the engine kept running until the carb ran out of gas. But all that time it was still running gas was being pumped out the fuel line. That problem and remedies are discussed in both the bug and bus "Fire" forums. |

Thanks! That kit is perfect. I will be getting one on order SOON!
A little scared about fires right now....my wife witnesses a 68 beetle flaming in front of them on the interstate yesterday! VW owner didnt have a fire extinguisher, but my wife and her boss did. They saved it! |

don't waste your money on buying these from the busdepot. you can find them at the flaps. advanced auto sells them 10 for just over a dollar. ask at the parts desk though. the ones one the shelf are 6 for 2 dollars for some reason. |

| Yeah I know about replacing all the fuel lines...I have done that. But I am talking about the hose just to the carb to the fuel pump. I wish I could get the braided fabric, but no local auto place carries it for some damn reason. |
