Since I had the window out to get the headliner put in I also got new window rubber to put on
My dad and I did the 'ole string trick :D
It went in wayy easier than what I thought. It only took about 15-20 minutes.
It sits really nice next to the headliner. I'm pretty excited b/c my car never had a headliner before, so having one now is really good, haha |

I began covering my seats with the TMI kit I bought. Luckily my neighbor is a self employed upholsterer, and has been doing it for 40 years. So he's the perfect helper in this case.
The new covers didn't come with any of the metal rods that were on the bottom back cushions of the seats, so I reused the original ones.
Cutting a piece of 1" cushion to put on top of the original horse hair pads.
As you can see in the picture, the bottom seat cushions come with a string fed around the bottom of the seat to tie the cover tight at the bottom. So instead of using the strings that could potentially break, I fed a thick flexible wire through it, like how the originals were.
Hog ringed and attached just like stock
And the finished product. It looks great and I can't wait to get them in the car.
I just finished installing my new carpet kit this weekend as well. I just have to upload them and then I'll share them. I'm so excited with how the interior is coming out :D |

What's wrong with this picture? The guy I ordered these through obviously ordered the wrong year styles. When I picked them up I didn't even notice b/c I was so excited. :?
So I had to take a dremel and razor blade to my brand new door panels. to make them correct.
Our living room before the carpet kit went in the car. How lucky am I to have a mom who lets me take over her living room? lol |

Tucking the headliner into the back of the parcel tray
I had to take a pie shaped piece out of the wheel well carpeting to make it sit flat and not have a fold in it
Both sides done
My temporary work table in the garage.
I used DAP contact cement from Home Depot. It worked GREAT. It loosened up the glue on the backing of the carpet and made it super pliable, so getting it around curved surfaces was much easier.
Luggage area done. |

Running rear speaker wires for a future stereo project :D
I used a clear plastic tube to run the wires through here so they won't chaff the coating off the wires when I run them through the heater channel where the stock harness is. I then ran the two wires into the fuse panel area through the the wiring harness grommet so holes didn't have to be drilled. |

My Dad helping me secure down the tab to hold the carpet in place
I cut the heater vents out, so they'd be usable
We made a template to cut out the carpet really close around the e-brake
Then we made another template so we knew it would be centered on the rubber brake boot |

| Is your car a factory VW color? If so, do you know the code or name of it? I didn't see it in the thread. |

No it's not a factory VW color. It started out as the base color of a 2005ish base vw color called "Sundown Orange" with a little tint to it. It was painted that color before I got it, and the paint I had matched to the car was Sundown Orange with a little red tint I think. The Sundown color I think you can still get at the dealers. :D I really like it. |

Next I got the kick panels and the front center panel test fitted and glued in.
Then I got the front floor section centered and fit nicely so I could get the right position for the cut for the shifter.
I traced around the shifter bracket. I made sure I did it this way, so the extra space of the carpet wasn't under the shifter, because otherwise the shift ball shaft wouldn't fit in the socket correctly. |

Looks so good compared to what I was used to. This was the first time I had carpet in the car.
I love the oatmeal color of the carpet, and how it goes with the orange color nicely! |

Looks awesome! Nice Job.
Just a thought...Aren't those chrome pieces that go up the pillar and along the top of the heater channel known to hold moisture and cause rust? If so you might want to get in the habit of taking them off periodically and making sure everything is dry. |

Ahh I never heard that before, but thanks for the tip. I'll do it from time to time, I only have the car out on nice days, so hopefully I won't have a problem. I'll be sure to check, none the less. thanks :) |

| I just need to tell you that you freaking rock! I also own my first 67 bug, and its my first dub for that matter. I got it about a month ago now and I am slowly working on it. its my DD so it is hard to work on and need it every day. also money is tight so I do what I can when I can. But I just want to say that I have used this forum and all your pictures to really learn how to do it myself. I will be posting all my own projects so others can hopefully learn from it too. But I just wanted to say Bug looks great! and keep putting those pictures up cause I will keep learning from them! again great work! |

Thanks a lot! I'm just finishing up covering my rear seat and I have some car show pics I have to post up as well. Congrats on your purchase. Yeah it's kind of hard doing that with a DD...try to what you can yourself, it's cheaper and you get the satisfaction knowing you did it when it's all done :D |
