got my motor in, 78 efi into my 73 bus. after several issues involving tranny, broken engine stud, gas line, fuel pump setup, old age ect..... i am ready to go, however i need to ask what is the best place to situate the efi computer? i have it currently mounted to the tin cover separating the gas tank from the engine. i read others have hacked a hole in the engine compartment? any ideas? thanks talipp......

I would mount it exactly as it is mounted in a later Bus by cutting out the mount from a donor vehicle and welding it in your Bus. Not the easiest, but that's how I'd do it.

There really isn't much of a "mount" for the computer, as it's more of a square hole cut in the engine compartment that it slides into and is secured with a screw. Easiest would be to cut that portion out of an F/I Bus and put it in the corresponding place in your Bus, which is basically what CCpalmer was saying....I'll be doing this with my '74 at some point when I put a 2.0 F/I motor in it.

I don't believe there's any real "mount" for the computer, a nice, neat hole and a couple of big sheet metal screws would be very close to the welded in nuts VW used.

Is there a pin or bracket down in the hole or on the fender well to stabilize the other end? I can't recall.

and that's how i've done it too and it looks perfect if you do it well.

there is a sheet metal "U" inside the hole to keep it from wagging side to side but it works fine with the just the rectangular opening cut from a donor.
