View original topic: bus not going into gear

I just rebuilt my type 4 motor and clutch assembly. the motor starts and i tried to drive it up onto my ramps to get to all the other tins under the bus, the bus started to roll ' drive ' up the ramps when it seemed like it was out of gear, the bus rolled back and will not move in any gear, it is like the bus is in neutral. the gear shifter can be in any gear and i can turn the motor over with a 21 mm wrench. I put new fluid in the tranny when the motor was out. got under bus and shifted and the shift rod moves with the shifter.. dont know what i did or didnt do. what do you vw gods think.....

I just put in a new clutch pressure plate. disc, throw out bearing and a new neadle bearing . I will check the coupling, guess I should of considered this when I had the motor out.

Did you adjust the clutch cable for your new clutch?

don't worry shift coupling is an easy in/out job no need to remove engine, should take you all of 10-20mins

found the problem / pass. cv shaft . how that happened I have no idea

well the person that rebuilt my cv shaft never put the circlip in, so when i tried to drive the chaft just spun eating at the splines. just rebuilt a old cv shaft and put it in and off we go. Theres no better feeling than doing the work yourself and being able to enjoy the benefits of your blood ,sweat and tears. thanks to all who replied and happy vwing !
