I have a 1971 with a 1600 dp and an 009 dist, Pict 34 carb. It's running too hot! It runs great, even idles, but the engine lid is hot to the touch and it smells hot. I don't have a CHT, so I'm not sure how hot it is running.
Which ways to I adjust the screws on the carb to make it run rich and safe? I have been going by the Bentley manual trying to tune it, but have not had luck making it cooler.
Fuel System Page 14 Figure 5-10:
I have 1 screwed in to lightly touching. I had this one screwed in quite a bit more. It made my bus idle high but run well.
3 and 2: which way is which?
Please help.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Is the timing/points gap/dwell correct? |

Hi
Small screw is the "gas volume screw", screw this in till it seat lightly then back it out 2.5 turns.
The larger screw is the "air volume screw" you use this to set the idle speed not the small screw. Idle speed should be between 850 and 900 RPM you will need a tachograph to set this accurately.
If you engine is running hot is more likely that the timing and or valve clearances are wrong.
Timing 7.5 degrees before top dead center depending on distributor/carb used some are 0 deg (1970 vac advance only units), check max advance after static timing, max advance should not exceed 32 deg before top dead center.
Valve clearance 0.15mm for both inlet and exhaust.
Any question please ask
