I have an engine that has less than 30,000 miles on the short block. However, I reused the old P&Cs and rings... dumb move. I am getting blow by. I tore it down. Pistons are out. I am going to leave the case together and just do a top end rebuild. I want to clean out the inside of the case really good.

I was thinking about going down to the car wash sprying out the inside like crazy with engine cleaner. Then I was going to fill it up with solvent and let it sit over night before draining. Then if I dry it out with rags and leave it sit in the sun to dry out... should I be good?

Thanks

I would just leave it alone. when you get it together run it and change the oil often. If you really think you need to clean the inside of the short block I would use a solvent sprayer with some solvent. I would stay away from water.

I wouldn't put any water in the inside of the case. It would be best just to wash inside of case with kerosene and drain. Water will cause problems in bearings and camshaft gear. Kerosene will clean some of the gunk off while still lubricate the rods and other internal parts.

used p&cyl if not scored /out of tolerance can be re-used with good results,BUT NEVER REUSE RINGS, and cyls have to be honed some to break glaz on cyl surface for rings to seat.
