here's my m-code tag

32 197 719

736

964350 D32 027 162 508

19 3 7324 UA 2211 41

It's a 1973 bus apple green top blue stripe at the mid line and lime green at the bottom. It's a little loud for my tastes but my kids love it as is. I'm going to be welding in some dog legs and rockers and if it's rare or a special edition I'd hate to destroy history (OE color codes wanted). Someone has already done a poor reshoot so I can only improve it from here. I've searched and not found any info on this so any help would be appreciated.

Did you try this?

Hmmm... not in the list. Can you tell if it is really original, like checking in places that were never repainted?

I'm with your kids on this -- it's a classic!

chazz79 Wed Sep 17, 2008 4:14 pm

yup these are origional colors

this is a perfect version

I think it's a 73 only color combo. If you look close at my pic you'll see the stripe outlined, it's not a sticker, it's actually painted on. They painted over it with more of the lime green color. There are places the sun has burned back through and the blue still shows. The nice bus with the rader wheels is exactly what mine would've looked like new.

i think it's a sweet looking paint scheme. i'd make it look like the photo above if it were mine.

rustfree1967bug Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:11 pm

Thats a pretty cool color.

cc79westie Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:30 pm

Yes a very nice green there. Don't see that very often.

chazz79 Wed Sep 17, 2008 6:11 pm

it's origional, the interior is the same lime green that you see the lower part of the bus painted.

busdaddy Wed Sep 17, 2008 6:54 pm

Damn, just when I thought I'd had one of everything, I'd roll that in a heartbeat, that's a sweet looking bus even though I'm not a big fan of green.

Was that a special edition or just a poor selling color combo? Or is it just full moon?

Strange paint code..... 9643 does not even appear in the 67-79 Specification Guide. Skips it from 9642 to 9644.

Chazz79: does the one you picture have the same 9643 paint code?
[50 is the black interior]

The top bus is mine and the bottom bus is a completely different (and nicer condition) bus. They have the same color combo so I know it had to be a factory or special paint option. It's not too likely that two buses would have the same "custom" color scheme. It is a black interior. Both are 1973's so maybe it was a limited edition?

chazz79 Thu Sep 18, 2008 3:39 am

The M-code info is from my 1973 (first posting pic) I don't have m-code info off the lower pic because I just pulled that off the internet. Put a shine on my bus and it's identical! Look close at my pic and you'll see where someone resprayed the lime green over the blue stripes. These are two same year buses with the same paint jobs, I hope I haven't stumped anyone becaus Im really needing paint codes and any other things you can tell me about it's optioning.

TeamSpatula Thu Sep 18, 2008 5:49 am

As far as I know it was a rare combo, even within the 1973-only offering. I have personally only seen 2 of those, and incidentally both were 9 passenger non-walkthroughs also. There was one on ebay a while back that looked really nice, and of course this is my rarer-than-rare dream bus that I just missed on ebay a couple years ago - the 73 Safare hightop camper in that color scheme...(if anyone knows of one available, let me know)

mattcuddy Thu Sep 18, 2008 6:21 am

Aside from the M-Code tag, do either of those 2 buses have the sticker behind the seat with the LXXX paint code?

vwsb Thu Sep 18, 2008 6:26 am

Off of a paint chart I have, DUPONT 1974 Volks...
It looks like it could be Rallye Green L61A, Stripe Olympic Blue L51P, Revenna Green L65K top. My 73 chart shows the blue and the Ravenna green but no other green that is even close. I hope this helps.

Samba member "scoobydoo" (sp?) also has an OG green on green bus. maybe he'll chime in as well.

Wasn't there a post not too long ago about (at least the high-top colors) that color scheme .

I think someone said it was offered up to Spokane WA during the 1974 Worlds Fair.

Very limited colors- keep it as is !

There's a new add in the bay parts section for a 79 parts bus advertized by "wolfgangs". It's brown but you can see the side of one of these sitting next to the one for sale. Somebody might want to talk him out of it before it's parted.

bug-nuts Thu Sep 18, 2008 7:46 am

Sorry, It's not a "new" add, but it is on the first page.

thewalrus Thu Sep 18, 2008 7:53 am

Is it related to this bus:

no, that's the sage green (of late Westy fame) on the bottom, and tan on top
