i never noticed until yesterday as i was installing the cable into the back that the needle us below the peg or stop. i tried to twist the little piece in the back fast enough to make it go back but it just goes past the 80 mph mark and stays there ....any input? thanks. yes i did search through speedometer but only found stuck cable info.

You could disassemble it and lift it over the peg. While you're at it, clean the glass lense inside and out.

COULD I push the metal part in the back that the cable goes into in order to lift it over the peg?

I'm not sure that it would work. It would have to be directly connected and that may not be the case. But why not give it a try in place and see what happens?

Man, I just went thru a mess trying to get my speedo fixed. I had chipped my needle when repairing glass. Then I bought 1 of the classifieds that turned out to be a POS....
it would work until 15mph and then max out. I have replaced mine 3 times in 2 weeks finally getting a good one that worked with a good needle.
If I was you I wouldnt tamper with it. Its not that hard to take out and put back in. Hardest part is those dang heat/air levers.....
I would remove it, fix the needle by hand, (clean up as mentioned earlier) and re-assemble. Just be careful when taking the gauge out and in. that needle is brittle
