afternoon all (or whereever youre from and what it is...)! names Al, and i reign from southern New Jersey. Ive been into cars a while and have own/worked on many things (this is babble- but i have a project im doing now; my 84' chevy S10 pickup with a big-inch small block-race/streetcar, and i do belong to some forums already for the smartguys out there). BUT ANYWAY my dad has been restoring his 1977 VW bay window chmapagne edt. (have the original window sticker from 1980 for documentation) and recently ive jumped on board with him for a cool father/son project, and would like any info regarding it please. Ive been parusing the forum before i joined to get my bearings, and noticed that all the champanges are westy-tops (?!? :? ), and am not sure that you can remove them or not- reason being is that mine is NOT a westy. i have a solid headliner. he used to own a eurovan with a camper top, and it had a hole in the front to get to the top, and i say this b/c my 77 doesnt have that- let alone anything of the westy sort. questions or cooments lemme know. hope to hear from you guys and thanks! :)

thanks. its my 3rd S-series. its got a lot smaller engine than that- a 406 (SBC 400, Bore 4.155", stock stroke which is 3.750"). ive got some 15" american racing torq-thrust D's on there with RIGHT NOW 275/65 rear (i say that b/c for xmas im looking for myself some MT ET drag radials 315/50's- go meats!) as well as some of those hot new wilwoods that have black rotors- things look sexy. but first (and certainly cheaper) IM looking to lower the "funkbus" as we call it, and take care of some rust work.as of today its going to my dads/my buddy's house. he replacing the front beam and steering box, new tie rod ends, fuel treatment, points, and whatever hes paying for. i wanna get it back and enjoy it  and start doing stuff to it.

also, i didnt know how much of a d-bag i was, until i realized that my screename was meant for my 77, not anything to do with a 78. crap. however we have a donor 78 former camper, with no top/motor/trans/ NOTHING. my dad wants it to replace the middle wind-window glass glass in the 77 with the sliding glass like on a transporter. (note: he also owns a 85 vanagon), he also wants the door panels for the speaker pockets; he has none in the 77, and "inner nose cardboard (??? i guess. i mean, thats what it look like)" when were done with it, if anyone needs a body for whatever, ill talk to em and you guys can come get it- otherwise its going to china as scrap. but enough out of me.

Welcome,
Not all champagne editions are campers, they also came as a passenger bus which sounds like what your dad has.

Read the sticky at the top of the page about fires if you have to change bad gas you should change your fuel lines too.
